Lightening

Had to share this beautiful poem my bestie recently wrote about us. It’s a touching tribute to long-standing friendships. How powerful it is to have a friend you know will weather the storms of life with you. Are any of you blessed with this kind of friend? Share your friendship story with me or tag your friend to tell them you are thankful for them!
***If you like my friend’s writing, you can follow her blog Tattooed Daughter (link on my site) or find her novels on Amazon. Cheers!

Tattooed Daughter

lightening.jpeg

And we were girls together.

Stumbling, crawling our way through adolescence.

Huddling under sleepover blankets trading secrets,

exchanging thoughts and wants for our future.

As I stand with you here, twenty some years later,

on the top of this mountain, overlooking your new home,

Distant lightning from impending storms illuminating

the sky in all directions,

us wrapped in a blanket, taking it in,

I think about how this is the way it alway is,

ever since I’ve known you.

Us facing storms alongside each other and that

it seems so strange to be women now

but far easier with you.

And how grateful I am for a thunder facing friend

Truly, there’s nothing more you can ask for in this life

that would ever be any better.
